We're thrilled to have yet another great addition to the diaVerge team!
Ashley Harris has been incredibly involved in the T1D parent community and she is joining the diaVerge team as a Content Coordinator, focusing on the parent resources within the LCT1D membership community launching in February.
Ashley and her daughter were both diagnosed with type one diabetes approximately 4 years ago.
Her daughter was 18 months old at the time of diagnosis and Ashley was diagnosed 6 months later, at 31 years old.
After her daughter’s diagnosis, Ashley was desperate for a better way to manage this disease when she found Dr. Bernstein. She knew immediately that his recommendation for a low carb, high protein diet was the solution she had been searching for. Ashley's family committed to the low carb way of eating, proceeded to get rid of all of their high carb, processed “food” and they have never looked back.
“We only spent about six weeks, post diagnosis, attempting to follow the standard recommendations given to type one diabetics…and it nearly killed me. My heart breaks for parents/people that have been doing this for years, thinking that there is no other way.”
-Ashley Harris
Ashley is incredibly active both online and in her community, presenting information about low carb diabetes management in her friendly, approachable manner. You can learn more about Ashley and get a sense of her great personality from her feature on the Juicebox podcast, ironically, episode number 83. She speaks about her family’s transition to low carb eating and how impactful it has been on their lives.
With a background in education and communication, Ashley is a perfect addition to the diaVerge family!
*Stay tuned for Ashley's first post here next week all about a child's diagnosis, the parents' emotional anguish, then questioning everything they’ve been taught about carbs and their new “normal".
What are the two key elements of optimal diabetes management, and how can we ensure 'luck' is on our side? The answer is simple, but not easy.
