Introducing our newest Diabetes Coach Educator, Kory Seder!
Kory Seder is a lifelong athlete and health advocate.
After decades of competitive swimming, soccer, ultramarathon running, cycling, and triathlon racing, Kory was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2012 at 33 years of age. Early into his diabetes experience he learned he needed to be his own advocate for care after initially being misdiagnosed as having Type 2 diabetes, leaving the hospital without so much as a prescription for insulin, and initially being denied an insulin pump. He rapidly learned that the “experts” he was meeting with did not share his goals. In fact, normal blood sugar levels were never even recommended.
Kory quickly realized he wanted to achieve normal non-diabetic blood sugar levels as often as possible, and that carbohydrate restriction was the most obvious way forward to achieve this. As an endurance athlete, this required a significant dietary change, but once he started controlling his blood sugar with a low carb lifestyle, Kory has managed to keep his a1c between 4.6 and 5.3% for 8 years and counting, while living a busy life, starting a family, and completing two additional Ironman races with normal blood sugar levels.
Kory has a background as a biochemistry research scientist, but left the lab and followed his passion for health into coaching. The health benefits of a low carb lifestyle motivated him to become a Nutrition Counselor for a functional medicine practice from 2013 to 2016, where he could directly coach patients towards health, one on one. In an effort to bring the low carb lifestyle to members of his local community, he and his wife opened Good Food - Low Carb Cafe in 2017.
Kory is available to coach any person looking for better blood sugar control, specializing in type 1 diabetes, including but not limited to diabetic athletes.
Kory believes everyone deserves normal blood sugars and he would love to be a part of your health journey!
We’re thrilled to have Kory join the diaVerge team to help more people with type 1 diabetes gain control over their health.
